EAL at Winnipeg South

EAL Adults Conversation Using the Bible

Beginner/Intermediate

Sunday mornings : 9:30 - 10:30 AM
during the first service at Winnipeg South, 1397 Buffalo Place
  • Learn English by using the Bible.
  • It is for Christians or for people who want to learn about Christianity.
  • Ongoing - except holiday Sundays and Christmas break (i.e. NOT on Oct. 15; not Dec. 21-Jan. 12; not April 20)
  • except holiday Sundays: Dec. 24, Dec. 31, Mar. 31 )
  • BEGINNER Level meets in classroom A4 
  • INTERMEDIATE Level meets in classrooms A1 and A2
  • Children may not attend the Adult Conversation Class, but the church’s regular Kidz Rock program will be running.  (Any children attending Kidz Rock will need to be registered with Kidz Rock).
  • Sign-up required.

Canadian Culture & Conversation

  • Winter Session (8 weeks): January 16 – March 6, 2025
  • Spring Session (6 weeks): April 10 – May 15, 2025
  • 7:00-7:15 PM – Tips for learning English
    • an ESL/EAL teacher will share tips on one of the following topics: vocabulary, pronunciation, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
  • 7:15-8:15 PM – Life in Canada discussion
    • winter and summer safety and activities, the health care system, shopping, Canadian holidays, nutrition, etc.
  • We meet weekly from 7-8:15pm on Thursdays in classroom A4 (at 1397 Buffalo Place)
  • Sign-up required.

New Beginnings Workshop

  • Join us for 3 weeks for our New Beginnings Workshops on the topic of Safety & Security in Canada.
  • JAN 10, 17, and 24 – three Fridays
  • Time 10:00 AM-12:00 noon
  • Room A1 at Church of the Rock (1397 Buffalo Place)
  • no cost to attend - please register to let us know you are coming

Alpha ESOL (Advanced)

The Alpha Course in English for Speakers of Other Languages
Sunday mornings : 9:30 - 10:30 AM
at Winnipeg South, 1397 Buffalo Place
This is a 23-week course on as follows:
  • Starts JAN 12 until APR 13, 2025

What is Alpha ESOL?

  • Alpha ESOL is designed for people who do not speak English as their first language.
  • Alpha ESOL will help to answer questions about life and faith and many more in a relaxed, friendly, non-threatening environment.
  • You will also have the opportunity to practice listening to, speaking and reading English.
  • Each week we will have a speaker, and times of discussion led by a host.
  • You can feel free to respond honestly in the discussion and share what you think and feel about what you have heard.
  • Participants are encouraged to ask tough questions with no fear of feeling judged or pressured.
  • Everyone Welcome! Please register so we can prepare course materials for you.

EAL at Bronx Park

Join us for a FREE Conversational English with conversation groups for all levels of English. Plus small groups with one volunteer who speaks English at an advanced level.

  • No childcare provided at this time.
  • The Program is FREE, no registration is required.
